A private question 4 ladies only

I have this rather stupid and unnecessary question that I have always wanted 2 ask any female. Why in movies when a lady is having a baby out of hospital such as in a car or truck or plane the first thing that the guy or lady helping her asks for is some HOT WATER? What is this water for? Is it for the purpose of cleaning the baby (I don't think thats possible because the baby will get burned). Or to put the ladies leg or hand into it so that the pain will make her push harder??? I have seen this a number of times but still don't know why. Can U

they use the hot water to disinfection the hands from germs, in easy terms for cleanin' up the hands ..

thank you very much for this new info. I never thought the water would be used for this purpose. This discussion reminds me of my self when I was a little boy. I used to think that the kid comes out of his mother's stomach in the blanket after seeing such scenes on TV. How cheaper would having baby's be if that were true
